A Ton of Anime Updates Arrived During the Holidays

The winter break offer a wealth of pastimes far superior than checking the headlines: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and using meditation skills to refrain from arguing with family members. Hopefully you managed to enjoy all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling news items surfaced over the break, and should you didn't see any, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)

Perhaps the biggest revelation, the widely-criticized disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop further production. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they might as well have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a positive development. However, the key visual for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, by now, they must be mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it still retained the fans' support and goodwill, and now the community is overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will probably premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio renowned for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Shortly after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has yet to be revealed.
