Dominant Aryna Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four titles – the most on tour – which included successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Consistency
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka concluded the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and earned a historic £11m in earnings.
She earned almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking extended hiatus following the birth of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
