News has broken that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
A Major Reunion for Fans
The actors are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their appearance will probably be featured in a brief glimpse ahead, given that the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.
This marks the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.
Exploring the New Story
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who directed most of the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
The supporting roles feature several notable actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the calculating President Snow.
